| About Fleas |
|
| Fleas are external blood sucking parasites on humans, dog, cats, rats and other animals. They can be brought into the homes by infested pets by infesting homes. Although they usually never leave their original hosts until the hosts die, fleas can bite and suck blood from humans in the absence of the animal hosts. Fleas usually bite humans around the ankle and lower legs. The bite wound can develop into skin inflammation. Fleas are also vectors of human diseases, the most important of these being plague, which is highly infectious and fatal. |

| Harmful Cause |

| Fleas prefer warm and humid conditions. They are attracted by the body warmth of the animal host. And crawl or jump onto the hosts. Fleas depend very much on their host for food(blood). When the host die, the fleas leave the dead body and look for another host. |

| What We Recommend |
|
Flea control indoors or outdoors relies on the use of insecticides. This should be undertaken by a professional pest controller. To prevent flea infestation at home, the following measures should be taken:
- Maintain high standard of cleanliness within your premises. Floors, carpets and upholstery should be vacuumed and cleaned frequently to remove any adult and developing fleas.
- Infested pets should be treated by veterinarian immediately.
- Always keep pet bedding and areas frequented by pets clean. Bedding of infested pets should be destroyed or cleaned thoroughly to kill the fleas. Keeping pets outdoors helps to reduce the flea problem indoors.
- Mattresses, cracks and crevices in the floor and bed should be treated with insecticides. Bedding of babies and young children should not be treated but washed or dry-cleaned.
- Fleas may be brought into home by rats and mice infesting the house. So, make sure that your home is free of rats and mice.
